UFC-109
To try and keep this as short as possible i will only cover the main card. If anyone would like to discuss any of the prelim fights please comment and we can do so.

Couture Vs Coleman Main Event
In a fight of two legends of MMA we will see the 46 year old Couture fight the 45yo Coleman in the light heavy division. The odds for this fight will have Couture as a very short priced favourite with his cardio likely to be the deciding factor. Coleman's takedowns can put couture on the canvas, the big question is can he do it often enough over 3 rounds to eeek out a decision victory...id suggest Couture is way too good for that and should control this fight in the clinch. I'm not touching this fight in the betting but will suggest if you like a roughie Coleman isnt without hope at what will be huge odds.
Couture via decision

Marquardt Vs Chonnen
Chonnen likes to use his greco wrestling to grind out decisions though will find this is much harder task against a quality opponent in Marquardt. I'm think Marquardt is a little bit better in all aspects of the fight and will catch Chonnen with a hard shot and put him away early. If Chonnen can survive early Marquardt will have his takedown defence really tested in this fight.
Marquart via Ko

Swick Vs Thiago
Odds will suggest that Swick will comeback from his upset defeat to Dan Hardy.. Im not so sure! Swick likes to clinch and i feel this will play into the hands of thiago and his judo background. Although a quality fighter Swick doesn't have alot of big name wins on his resume, while Thiago owns the scalp of Swicks stablemate Koscheck.
Thiago via decision

Maia Vs Miller
In a battle of brazilian jui jitsu blackbelts Miller could try and resort to a striking battle as I dont think he is in the same league as Maia on the ground. I'm tipping Maia to show how good he is by catching Miller in a submission.. though the safer bet will be Maia dominating to a decision win.
Maia via Submission

Serra Vs Trigg
The reason the 35 and 37 year olds are on the main card completely eludes me... both are far from top comepetitors in the division. Although Serra has an average MMA record at best he does have a KO win against GSP and always seems to be well prepared for his fights. Trigg is a good all round fighter but where he lies mentally is another story. I think Frank Trigg could surprise alot of people in this fight and possibly wrestle his way to victory. Serra will be favourite with the bookies so ill try and pick the upset here.
Trigg via decision

In my opinion 109 is one the hardest cards to predict in a long time with alot of clear favourites who i beleive to be way too short in betting..

Goodluck and enjoy the fights..

109 Wrap...

As expected the card was a tough one with a couple of major upsets..one selected and one not..

In the main event Randy Couture was in great condition and outclassed Mark Coleman who's body really isnt up to the demands of such elite competition at his age. After taking Coleman to ground Couture secured a choke in the 2nd round for a submission victory.

Nate Marquardt was unable to stop Chael Sonnen's takedowns and in what was a highly competitive fight. Marquardt opened a big cut up on Sonnens forehead with an elbow strike and almost put Sonnen to sleep in the 3rd round via choke. In what was a major upset Sonnen's wrestling proved too good and he managed to grind out a decision victory with excellent takedowns and ground and pound.

The upset that was predicted came via Paulo Thiago against the favoured Mike Swick. After a devastating left cross that dropped Swick, Thiago pounced and secured a guillotine choke that will open up others eyes to how good he is and ruffle a few feathers in the division.

Damian Maia as expected proved too classy for a determined Dan Miller winning by decision and showing improved striking. Although Sonnen is now the N01 contender at Middleweight Maia will get a title shot at Anderson Silva while Sonnen waits out a medical suspension from the injuries suffered in his win over Marquardt.

Matt Serra proved too much for Frank Trigg winning by KO. As mentioned in analysis the reason these two were fighting eludes me. Serra came into the fight in great condition while it looked as though Trigg was simply there for a pay check. This will be the last time we see Trigg in the UFC and with the popularity of Serra on the rise odds may be juicy if he fights someone decent. I feel he is being hand fed fighters at the moment and im confident a quality fighter at Welterweight will take care of him at what may be juicy odds!

UFC 110 Sydney Australia selections coming soon!
