V8 Supercars confirmed for Queensland Raceway

UPDATE: The V8 Supercars round at Queensland Raceway outside Ipswich has avoided the scrapheap.

Ipswich mayor Paul Pisasale confirmed today the event would be staged between April 30 and May 2.
"There were a lot of discussions, a lot of negotiations, but they started to realise the fans want it," Cr Pisasale said.

"V8 Supercars will manage the event this year, not the lessee at Queensland Raceway as in the past.
"They are really attuned to events like this."

Crr Pisasale said there was a need to improve facilities at the circuit.

"What's really got to happen now is for the future - I really want to make sure we secure the event for many years to come," he said.

Queensland Raceway's owner John Tetley earlier said he had signed an agreement last night.

The meeting was listed two weeks ago as provisional in the V8 calendar after negotiations between QR and AVESCO broke down.
