Sorry for any inconvenience or brain damage this blog may cause you.
Further disclaimer: For this week, each segment will contain a passage explaining what the hell he’s doing. In future weeks, you’ll be expected to decipher this for yourselfFeldy at the Footy
TheFeldster offers his opinion on a big footy topic of the weekWith rivalry round coming up, and the Saints undefeated thus far, what better story to be on everyone’s lips than… the fucking draft. Back before the AFL was a business, and the teams were run by clubs, the draft didn’t even exist. But now it does, and I think the high profile that the draft gets is not good for footy. It’s good for the AFL’s bank account, but as we’ve seen with Western Sydney earning a team in the league, the bank account is all that matters to this league, and this is another example.
First off, the AFL wish to move the draft to the Gold Coast… give me a break! What good will that do? Seriously, how are they expecting the people on the Gold Coast to go to a footy draft which will no doubt fall on the same night as a match by their new highly touted A-League team. That move is a waste of time AFL, sorry.
Secondly, the AFL want to move the draft to prime time, in order to get a deal with Foxtel for the rights, and then jazz it up a bit by getting the first 10 picks chosen in advance, and begin the night with a dramatic countdown from Pick #10 to #1, which they expect lots of people to tune into and stare at. This will give more exposure to the highest touted youngsters out there.
THIS IS NOT A GOOD THING. Take, for example, the 2008 No. 1 draft pick, Jack Watts of Melbourne. Now, he’s only young, isn’t fully built yet and he could get better. That’s granted. But when his debut against Collingwood on the Queen’s Birthday approached, the media circus was as bad as the one surround Ben Cousins when Richmond drafted him. Watts himself has admitted that he hasn’t been happy with his efforts so far on the field, and thinks he should be playing better. I personally think the expectations on him are partly responsible for this, and he tries to do too much to live up to the hype. It’s seen often in highly touted youngsters in all leagues, and making the exposure worse will further subdue the greatest talent in the country. I think the media and fans should focus on who’s currently on the field, and leave the clubs to work out the youngsters, for the good of football.

Feldy’s Hoops Talk
Same as the above segment, except TheFeldster has moved onto BasketballGonna move onto a bit of light-hearted basketball here and talk about the future of one of my least favourite NBA players – Allen Iverson. AI spent most of his career at the Philadelphia 76ers, before being traded to the Denver Nuggets. Midway through last season, he was traded to Detroit for Chauncey Billups. Billups went on to lead Denver to a Conference Final, while Iverson was a major pain in the rear end for Pistons administration.
So where to now for Allen Iverson? Detroit have stated that they have no interest in reacquiring the controversial guard. The two major suitors have been the Memphis Grizzlies and Los Angeles Clippers, with the Charlotte Bobcats and Miami Heat both showing minor interest.
Both the Clippers and Grizzlies could do with some veteran knowledge, with young teams, and both have a weakness at Iverson’s position, the point guard. But is Iverson the right man for a veteran role? Former teammate Carmelo Anthony has been negative in his descriptions of the guard, and I’m not sure these young kids need an influence like A.I. in the team. He would be better served going to an experienced playoff team for less money and playing a role similar to P.J. Brown in 2008, when Boston won the ring.

Today’s A Current Affairs Tonight with TheFeldster
TheFeldster takes a big issue in the media, and dissects it to give an opinion on the subject. And not once will the topic of the week be a noisy neighbor or the biggest scam artist ever. This week, I have decided that the current affair story I will talk about is the recent Jakarta bombings. Now this is a serious issue. For those of you living in rocks, caves or other secluded areas, in which case it would be very unlikely you are reading this Internet blog, I’m going to go over the events of the bombings.
On Sunday, two suicide bombers, in two separate hotels – the Marriot and the Ritz – in Jakart, Indonesia. 9 fatalities were recorded – 3 Aussies, a Kiwi, 3 locals and a couple of Dutch tourists. It is the 7th bombing in the country since the turn of the century, a run which included the infamous Bali Bombings in 2002, and a bombing in 2003 in the Marriot Hotel that was also bombed this time around.
I must admit, the task force known as Detachment 88 in Indonesia has done an admirable job tracing down the group behind these bombing, but they can’t do it all on their own. The Indonesian government is, in my mind, too susceptible to corruption to fully deal with a group like this. Hence, while I don’t like war, I have to say that some sort of task force from a stronger nearby nation – Australia or China seem the major options, but USA are always happy to be the world police as well – are needed to come in on a short term basis (unlike the set up in Iraq or Afghanistan) and try to save some lives, because this could get very bad at a very fast rate, as far as I can see.

FELDY LOSES IT!!!!!!!!
In this segment, TheFeldster will find something, or someone, who has really pissed him off, and rant and rave about it for a while. It’s similar in style to former Rove segment “Hughesy Loses It!!!”, but with no Hughesy, and no half-assed attempt to try and back out of every statement made.Something that has really pissed me off this week has been the multimedia company Apple, in particular their revolutionary mp3 player, commonly known as the iPod. I have never seen a more temperamental piece of utter shit posing as technology in all my life! Every so often, my iPod Nano has decided it would be a good fun idea to suddenly freeze, and the only way I have discovered is to leave it in a cupboard or a drawer until the friggin battery runs dry, then plug it into a computer, and then it suddenly decides to work perfectly fine. How retarded is that! Seriously, I’ve only got an iPod in the first place as it has enough space, which nothing else at JB Hi-Fi could boast… but I’m
seriously regretting that decision!!!

It Could Only Happen To Me…
Not everyone reading this blog knows TheFeldster in real life, but if you did, you’d know that he seems to be prone to interesting accidents and mishaps. This is a segment where he will share his “It Could Only Happen To Me…” moments. He can’t guarantee this will be a weekly segment, as with any luck, these moments won’t come every week… but it’s plausible. So, it’s basically a “Fuck my life” thing, but family friendly!I was in the Chemistry lab, doing a Chemistry prac, as you do. In this particular case, there was an apparatus set up to create an ester, which is pictured about (non Chemistry people don’t need to know the details). This apparatus takes a few hours to work, and requires running water in order to work. So, naturally, the class left the apparatus running with water over the lunchbreak. Anyway, after lunch we go into the Chem lab, and the floor is flooded, as is the middle bench… a bench which I, among others, happened to be working on. Needless to say, it was my apparatus that had caused the flooding, with a tube coming unstuck and sending running water on its merry way through the lab. So much for that prac…

Album ReviewThis segment involves an album review… with an album… that’s being reviewed… get it? Album: Outlandos D’Amour
Artist: The Police
Year: 1978
It was the debut album by the Police, a reggae and funk group out of England. In my opinion, it is also among their best.
The album opens with a punk feel, with the song Next To You, but immediately transitions to the reggae-pop fusion they became famous for, with So Lonely and Roxanne following along. Other interesting aspects are the bizarre final track Masoko Tango and the trippy, but amusing, spoken interlude in Be My Girl – Sally. Roxanne for me was the best song of the album, and is definitely a classic. This album is rare in that the singles are the best songs, with So Lonely and Can’t Stand Losing You both just as good. Interestingly, Can’t Stand Losing You and Roxanne were both initially banned from airplay.
Overall, this album is very good at giving a reggae feel while incorporating pop, funk, punk and rock ‘n roll in the album. A few of the songs are unremarkable however.
Overall rating: B

Random Beatles Fact
Of course, TheFeldster would have to close each blog with a Beatles fact. Here is this weeks’ thrilling gem of knowledge and wisdom. The last song recorded by deceased Beatle George Harrison was called “Horse To The Water”, and was a collaboration between George, Jools Holland and George’s son Dhani. George produced it, and gave it the copyright line “RIP Ltd 2001”.
