Maybe it's possible to specify that, like in soccer.

Geez you have all the tough questions SMASH
Id say it would be the higher scorer of the 2.

The main point of it is so people cant replace someone like Sandilands with someone like Ablett. Id prefer if we just went like for like and didnt start swapping everyone positins

Both of them have there flaws, so I'm not really a fan of either.

I think it should be -

EMG: Ruckman - Defender - Midfielder - Forward

The emergencies should look like that and they can only replace someone in the same position that didn't play.

For example, say your emergencies are: Gardiner - Hodge - C.Cornes - Varcoe

If say Brian Lake is a late withdrawal, the only person that can replace him in the side is Hodge because he was the one named as a defender. Cornes can also play as a defender but because he was named as a midfield emergency, that's the only position he can replace.

So if Lake is a late withdrawal and Hodge also doesn't play, then none of your other emergencies can replace him no matter who they are.

Dunno if anyone can make sense of that but that's the way I think it should be. Basically it's similar to rule two but a little more strict and doesn't have any loop holes imo. I think it also rewards the teams with good depth.

That's my two cents on it.

EDIT: out of the two rules though i say rule 1

Wasn't what Shooter just said Rule 2 pretty much?

He was clarifying what it should be if it went ahead. Agree with his definition.

I'm not in the game but I'm just going to say go with Shooter's rule. It works perfectly.
